CANDY COOPER, an anxious, lower class young woman with a tough girl persona, has never recovered emotionally from her father Drew Cooper’s abandonment when she was eleven, sixteen years earlier. She’s searched for him ever since.
She couldn’t find him, she discovers, because he changed his name from Drew Cooper to Drew Douglas. And, he recently died and left her something in his will.
When she enters Drew’s lawyer’s conference room and finds an upper-class woman and three children, she doesn’t understand what’s going on. She quickly discovers that Maggie Douglas is Drew’s widow and the three kids are their children. None of them knew the others existed.
Just as Candy becomes wealthy under the will, Maggie discovers her family is broke as government agencies seize their assets. WHEN DREW DIED features not Drew, but Maggie and Candy as they reclaim their stories from him and through each other.
